No Noose Is Good Noose

This is a random sampling of headlines on a random day from the online version of Times of India, India's "premier" newspaper:

(1) From Baazee CEO to Jail No 3 of Tihar prison

-- The only thing that I gathered from the story was that Tihar Jail is infamous and the inmates live under uncomfortable conditions. I already knew this. Not from personal experience of course, only based on hearsay.

(2) 10k speed-fest: Sachin or Lara?

-- Who cares?

(3) Desi words enter crime lexicon

-- An article informing us that "charas" and "chillum" are now officially English words. I was so excited I peed my pants a little.

(4) Kissa kiss ka as a taste-case

-- Eh? What? And if you think that the title is cryptic, consider that the article begins with the vaguely ominous observation [sic]: "It turns out that the law is not as ass after all; instead, it's an aesthete." Eh? What?

(5) Whites ain't no benchmark for him

-- Shekhar Kapoor opines that he's too good for the Oscars. That is, until he actually physically receives one.

(6) 'Pakistanis ain't conservative'

-- Aamir Khan back from a fund-raising trip in Pakistan - quite naturally, since there are no worthwhile causes left in India. Thanks Aamir, for that brilliant piece of insight. How could a culture that allows any random male to get it on with four females be conservative? And Aamir, please don't say "ain't". It is grammatistically incorrect.

(7) Virginity is up for sale on ebay

-- Er...how shocking...uh...Wait a minute, folks. Be right back.

Question to none in particular: Is there a good online newspaper (as opposed to a gosh-darned rag) that prints news from India?

Christopher Hitchens on Michael Moore

Below is a link to Christopher Hitchens' incisive review of Michael Moore's latest film, Fahrenheit 9/11.

This review kinda proves what I have felt for some time now: Knee-jerk liberalism is at least as obnoxious as knee-jerk conservatism. As a matter of fact, I would argue that the former is worse than the latter. Knee-jerk conservatives are merely deluded in their worldview; knee-jerk liberals are actively dishonest in trying to disprove that worldview.

Geometric Theory of Social Interaction

I have a new theory: it's called The Geometric Theory of Social Interaction. I'll formally formalize it and post it one of these days. But first, I must eat.

A Start of Sorts

Trying to think of something earth-shattering to say, but can't.

I'm hungry.
